I run a private lymphoedema service for patients at the Genesis Care centre in Bristol UK. As well as offering all aspects of lymphoedema care and scar work treatments, I have set up a monitoring programme with the Impedimed bioimpedance spectroscopy device. My hope is to monitor all ‘at risk’ patients (axillary node clearance and sentinel node where >6 nodes removed) to provide a baseline measurement of extracellular fluid prior to any surgery or radiotherapy. This will enable me to (a) provide early intervention/treatment plan should the ongoing measurements indicate an increase in volume, and (b) reduce any anxiety for patients who fear developing lymphoedema.
